Whip Mix Insights: 10 Ways of Being Your Best in Sales (BTW, They Require Zero Talent!)

I am sure most of you have seen this list on one social media platform or another. I looked all over the internet to find the original source to give credit to, but the original does not seem to exist. I even found one person saying that the list was a total myth. (I did agree with a couple of his takeaways). Regardless if you agree that the items on this list require no talent or some talent, I like it. I believe in this list so much that I have had a copy of it saved on my phone for the last 18 month. So, without further ado:

Being on Time - It seems so simple, but it is amazing over the years how many people I have encountered that just can’t seem to do this. If a Doctor tells you he can meet you in his office at 8:30 and you show up at 8:40, don’t be surprised when he cuts the meeting off 15 minutes later to go see patients.
Work Ethic - Being available to come in early or stay late to get the job done goes a long way to prove to your employer that you are the type of employee they want to keep around and promote.
Effort - This goes along with work ethic, but in my opinion goes beyond it. Will you help out in another part of the lab or office? As a sales manager and sales rep I have often said I am not the smartest guy in the room, but I can outwork anyone.
Body Language - Looking someone in the eye when you talk to them can go a long way in gaining their respect.
Energy - We all have nights where we don’t sleep well and drag ourselves into the office, but being upbeat and positive on a regular basis really affects the people around you and makes people want to work with and do business with you.
Attitude - Customers, prospects and coworkers alike all want to be around people that have a positive attitude. It takes zero talent to wake up in the morning and decide I am not going to be a Debbie downer!
Passion - Do you love what you do? Then show it. This one is my favorite. I absolutely love 3D printing. I have since I came into contact with my first printer in 2012. Let that passion show through. People will respect you for it.
Being Coachable - It doesn’t matter where you are in your professional career, we all need coaching. Are you able to adapt to new environments? Accepting coaching will help you adapt to the ever-changing industry.
Doing Extra - This goes along with Effort and Work Ethic. By doing a little extra than what your role may require will motivate your co-workers to do the same and start to move your business ahead of your competitors.
Be Prepared - Take time at the end of the day to prepare yourself for your meetings the next day. When someone agrees to meet with you, they are taking time out of their day. Make sure you are prepared and make it worth their time to meet with you.
