This is the second in a three part blog series. The Blogs were the result of a live stream event I recently attended, hosted by David Bain from Digital Marketing Radio. During this event, he featured 120+ of the world’s leading digital marketing professionals. Each professional was asked one question “What is your #1 actionable digital marketing tip for 2019?”

Here are 6 tips and tricks that stood out to me.

1) Re-purpose Content Amongst Various Platforms
Throughout the series, multiple professionals mentioned repurposing content across platforms. Once content is created, it can be repurposed amongst various platforms and designs. For example, a well created blog post can be turned into an ebook, white paper, video, podcast, and/or social media post.

2) Stop Selling Products, Sell Experiences
According to Ben Tepfer in Part 1, people remember experiences. When we surprise and delight customers, the experience becomes memorable.

According to Stewart Rogers in Part 2, sales and marketing is an emotional business. In order to stand out from the crowd, sales and marketing needs to elicit an emotional response. This makes the experience more memorable.

3) Pay attention to Google Updates
Google is constantly updating its offerings. Stay up to date with these here.

According to Greg Gifford in Part 1, one change to pay attention to is Google My Business. Every business should have a profile that is up to date. Answer all the questions, fill out the data, upload images and advertise promotions.

4) WCAG Guidelines
According to Jeff White in Part 3, we all need to be aware of the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). These are the laws that allow our website and content to remain accessible to people with disabilities. In quarter 3 of 2018, 470 cases were filed against companies for not following WCAG protocol.

5) Newsjacking
According to David Meerman Scott in Part 5, marketing professionals are too focused on content calendars. In 2019, we should focus on real time marketing. He emphasizes understanding the news cycle: Event, Breaking, Flat Lined, Falling Off. He created the term newsjacking, which is using current events to create content. His example was a lawyer writing a blog about legal issues happening across the country.

6) Be willing to take risks
Throughout the series, multiple professionals mentioned the ability to take risks. Don’t be afraid to try new things, or challenge the status quo. Don’t be afraid to be the first company or brand to try something new. And most of all, don’t be afraid to fail.
