I am sure there are several of you out there that owned the 3Shape D500 or at least remember it. The D500 was 3Shape’s entry level scanner. It scanned a full arch in 115 seconds at 10 microns and cost $18,000 with Dental System Premium.
I think it’s safe to say 3Shape has come a long way since then. When they launched the E series scanners in 2017, the technology increased and the price decreased. This line of scanners has been so successful, they just launched version 2 of the E series scanners with the new Generation Red line E scanners. When we compare the D500 to the E1 (the current entry level scanner) you get a scanner that scans a full arch in 32 seconds at 10 microns of accuracy for $14,000. Compare that to the D500 specifications above. You don’t even have to worry about adjusting for inflation. It’s less! And that's with Dental System Premium software to give you an apples to apples comparison. If you are a lab and 85-90% of your work is single units and bridges you can get an E1 with Crown & Bridge software for $11,700. That’s $6,300 less than where we were 4 years ago for an entry level 3Shape scanner.
The Generation Red E scanners are upgrades of the 3Shape E1, E2 and E3 dental lab scanners to the same next generation platform as the E4 lab scanner. The next generation platform enables the three Generation Red E scanners to scan 20% faster for optimized productivity.
3Shape continues to set the bar at a very high level. With this new launch they have upgraded their hardware and with 450 software developers, their CAD platform continues to set new standards every year. Well done 3Shape!
Cheers,
Chris Frye
