Whip Mix Insights: What's Your Theme for 2016?

Written by Sarah Brom-Criscola | January 08, 2016

As the New Year begins, it's time to make those resolutions. If you are anything like me, you make your resolutions with the best of intentions, but in the end are never really able to stick to them. That’s why I'm taking a different approach, instead of making New Years resolutions; I’m choosing a New Years’ Theme and challenge you to do the same.

What is a New Year’s Theme?

While a New Years Theme is not a new concept, I just learned about it a few weeks ago. Instead of choosing specific resolutions to follow, choose a theme that will act as an overarching mindset to carry you throughout the year. This theme can be related to goals you want to achieve, or it can be related to your state of mind, state of being, or anything you want to be thoughtful of this year.

Why Choose a Theme vs. Resolutions?

An estimated 50% of Americans make New Years resolutions, but only 8% actually achieve their goals. So I bet you’re wondering how those 8% of people are able to achieve their resolutions/goals they set; they keep it simple. It’s great to think of the New Year as a new beginning. However, I think we have a tendency to go a little crazy. We end up writing down everything we didn’t accomplish the year before in hopes of accomplishing it this year. In the end, we end up with a long list of things that most likely are unrealistic or too stringent. That’s why I like the idea of choosing a New Year’s Theme. It helps keep things simple and focused. In addition, it can apply to all facets of life, whether it is personal or work.

What will your Theme be?

The Theme I choose for this year is “Make It Happen”, but most importantly what will your theme be? Once you decide on one – make it visible. Hang it up in your dental office or lab and even on the refrigerator at home so you have it as a daily reminder. With any luck the odds will be in your favor for success in the New Year!
