One of the frustrations of Colloidal Silica (special liquid) for phosphate investments is the fact that it can crystallize over time and can be a bit sticky. When using a machine like the AquaSpense SL, the nature of the liquid can be a unique challenge to get the correct amount delivered each time. When maintained properly a machine like the AquaSpense SL can deliver the exact amount of liquid each time, provided the user stays on top of preventative maintenance of the unit.
One of the most effective ways to keep the liquid flowing, on a daily basis, is to pinch the tip of the special liquid hose. Using a damp paper towel will be very helpful in removing crystallized particles. It is a good idea to do this each morning before use or any time the unit is not used for several hours. In addition, we recommend wiping down the unit with a damp cloth and removing the scale cover and cleaning it.
Over time, however, crystals will build up along the hose and create a more substantial blockage. In some cases, the white hose can be removed and cleaned by gently pushing a wire through the hose. A straight section of a clothes hanger works very well for this procedure. Although, it may be necessary to replace the cap assembly over time as the clogging can become extreme and the hose will become constricted due to contact with the pinch valve.
1) Loosen the SL bottle cap to depressurize the bottle and swing the arm open
2) Insert the end of a new, white special liquid hose
3) Place your thumb on the hose
4) Stretch the hose and slide into the pinch valve
