Did You Know it’s Our 100th Birthday?

Written by John Hughes | November 21, 2019

This has been a pretty special year for Whip Mix and its customers. The company turned 100 year’s old! The year has seen lots of parties, ceremonies, celebrations, and bourbon toasts at our trade shows, and it’s been a lot of fun, but mostly, it’s been a year full of pride.

How many companies can claim a spot at the centennial table? If you Google it, you’ll find that only .00897 percent of U.S. firms are over 100 years old! Whip Mix is certainly proud to be counted among that very small number.

It all started in 1919 when four Steinbock brothers—Edmund Sr., Clarence, Leo and Urban—introduced a groundbreaking casting system to the marketplace. It consisted of a refractory investment, burnout oven, air pressure casting machine and an egg beater-style spatulator that whipped and mixed better than any other product on the market, thus the company name!

The company has been privately held by the Steinbock family ever since. It's actually a very interesting story, even if you’re not a family member. Would you like to find out more? You can. Just click on any of the links below to read articles that were published about Whip Mix throughout this year. We hope you enjoy learning about a company you have probably known for most – or all –of your life in the dental industry.

Clearly another breakthrough by a tech startup run by a bunch of STEM hotshots using investors’ seed money to follow their generational mandate: The only way to put things together in a new way is to first break up the old ways. Isn’t the 21st century wonderful?
