As a progressive dental laboratory, always looking for ways to stay ahead of the technology curve, Derby Dental Lab in Louisville, KY had been working with digitally scanned impressions for several years. When they found their digital account base had more than doubled in one year, they knew it was time to consider printing their own models.

The Decision

The choices seemed overwhelming at first, but with some dedicated research, the team narrowed their choices down and looked very closely at how each printer would fit into their business and day-to-day workflow. As a disciplined group, they did their homework to prepare for the addition of a 3D printer with as few challenges as possible.

PRO2

They knew what they wanted in the new technology: speed, accuracy, capacity and versatility, so that helped to narrow down the search. To test out the accuracy of various printers, they sent .stl model files to several printer manufacturers who were willing to print samples for them to evaluate. The results of the comparative testing enabled them to make an informed decision. Derby felt that the Asiga PRO2 met the needs of their initial 3D printing requirements for many reasons, including printer capability, training and support to name a few.

The Result

The Asiga PRO2 was integrated seamlessly in to Derby's production and enhanced the workflow by reducing "down time" of waiting to receive models from their outsource partners. Today Derby Dental Lab has over 40 digital accounts and has processed nearly 500 digital models in-house since purchasing the printer in March of 2017.
